Bone loss after Botox?

Yes, some research showed that so called bone loss occurs because Botox affects muscle so it drops on the bone.  This only occurs when Botox is injected in mandible, lower jaw. If your results are worrisome, I would advise you to have a follow up appointment with your provider. Good luck!

Thank you for your question Gvm1. Botox is a purified protein used to address wrinkles associated with facial expression such as those on the forehead. There are studies that demonstrate that bone loss occurs in the mandible with Botox treatment of the masseter muscle, but this is due to the fact that muscle pulls down on the bone. This is not the case in the forehead and I am unaware of any such studies in the forehead. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

Bone loss will not occur in this area. the frontalis muscle is flat and not very thick. The studies indicating bone loss after masseter injection are not well done nor confirmed

It is unlikely that you would experience bone loss from getting your forehead or brows injected.  Thank you for your question.

This won't happen in the brows. I'm familiar with the study in the masseters but this isn't what I see clinically. The theory is that the loss of muscle tension would lead to less bone in the jaw. There is minimal muscle bulk in the brow area and you won't have any bone loss related to Botox. There is typically age related bone loss that is potentially possible in this area.
