How often should you wash your hair after a hair transplant?

It is best to ask your surgeon about post operative care as each doctor has their unique regimen.  Some doctors advocate washing your hair staring the day after surgery.

You can start to wash your hair just as before the operation .You may start to gym, heavy exercises and swimming 2 weeks after the FUE operation. Jogging, running, sauna, cycling etc don't give any harm after 2 weeks of operation . 

At our Tijuana, Mexico office and most top clinics, we require washing once per day for at least two weeks and following a specific regimen for one week and then a different regimen for the second week. After two weeks you go back to your regular shampoo frequency.

By three months postop you may resume your previous hair wash schedule.  If you're not getting hot and sweaty, every 2-3 days should be fine

I generally advise my patients to stick to a hair care/ shampoo regimen twice a week (every 3-3.5days). If you frequently wash your hair you increase the number of shed hairs per cycle and can hasten any hair loss you have. 

You will start with the donor area. Keep the recipient area dry until the very end.Grab the shampoo we provided, add some water, then use the solution to gently massage theback of your head where your donor hair was removed. After you’ve cleaned the back of yourhead, rinse with water.Now, using low water pressure, rinse your recipient area. Take the sponge. Using the yellowside of the sponge, add some shampoo, then water. Squeeze the sponge so it creates a soapysolution, and release the solution onto your grafts. The key here is NOT to rub with the sponge,but to roll the sponge. This will take off any dried blood or crusts. Again, using low waterpressure, rinse your recipient area.To dry your hair, take a clean towel and pat. Make sure not to rub your hair with the towel.After drying, place a thin layer of the bacterin ointment onto your donor area.
