You may have what’s called lip incompetence. One cause of lip incompetence is a dental protrusion, such as an overbite, overjet, or buck teeth.

A lip lift done correctly should not in and of itself cause issues closing your lips.

But in your case, I would refer you to one of my dentists for an evaluation prior to the lip lift. We work in tandem to give our patients the best care.

It is normal and youthful to see 3-4 mm of tooth show at rest. I would recommend a traditional lip lip to allow for 11-13 mm of lip length. In the profile photo, it appears that you have a deep mentolabial fold. That usually means that your lower facial height is short. You might also benefit from a lengthening genioplasty for your chin. This would also reduce the dimpling when you smile.

I have never had a patient have a problem with closing their mouth after a lip lift. A lip lift does 4 things: shortens the distance between your nose and upper lip, increases the mucosa of the upper lip, increases the incisor show and pulls up the corners.
