I had closed rhinoplasty July 2015. Now I still have a residual boney hump and I have booked to have this rasped in July 2016. I would like to know the risks involved. My doctor says I shouldn't worry and it's a very minor surgery under local anaesthetic with a tablet to relax me. I want to know if it could cause any changes to the shape of my nose? Any risk of polly break deformity? Please could you tell me if any possible problems, how likely they are and if/how they could be fixed? Thanks!

In our practice, we perform all revision rhinoplasty procedures under general anesthesia, even if for only rasping the bridge line. It's very difficult to get the nose completely numb to operate  on it without significant pain during the procedure. A moderate to significant dorsal hump will require osteotomies placed in the nasal bones to prevent an open roof deformity from occurring.

The bone can be rasped under local anesthesia to reduce the residual hump.  A poly beak is a very, very unlikely complication of this procedure. However, increased width of your bridge is possible if a significant amount of bone is removed without doing osteotomies to reposition the nasal bones.
