I've just had otoplasty (surgery to reduce the size/sticking out of my ears). How long should I wait before using earbuds??

It is always best to check with your particular surgeon when asking questions about activities after surgery.  In general, using earbuds should not affect surgery done for pinning back ears (otoplasty) so I would not see a problem using them anytime after surgery.  

Your surgeon knows the specifics about you and the scope of the surgery. Therefore, he or she is best able to guide you with this type of question. Depending on how risk averse, the surgeon is he or she may recommend that you wait a few weeks before using earbuds.

Placing earbuds does not require manipulation of the pinna (ear itself).  As long as you are gentle inserting them, you should be able to use earbuds immediately following surgery.Best, Stephanie Power MD, MSc, FRCSC
