5 days post op of my gyno surgery I had a very very mild case and only had a incision done (no lipo) are these scars normal? My flights are booked to Australia for the 10th of this month so in 3 weeks and day, will I be able to swim over there shirtless etc ? As I've been unable to go shirtless in 4 years it would mean alot

Answer: Is this going to leave a mark? At 5 days post operative, your scars look appropriate. The incisions appear to be closed with an absorbable type of suture. Common problems encountered with incisions around the areola include poor scarring and adherenced of the scar to the underlying tissue ( muscle). This may distort the areola and create an "operated on" look. Ask your surgeon about scar massage and treatments that can minimize scar distortion and adherence to the deeper tissue. Best Wishes,Dr. Morrissey

Answer: Scar quality after gynecomastia surgery Thank you for your question and photographs. From what I can see, for five days post operative, your scars look quite normal. It may take 4 to 6 months before the scar will fully mature. In my surgical practice, I will allow patients with plastic surgical scars on the trunk to swim in a chlorinated pool in one week in the ocean or lakes in two weeks. Your operating plastic surgeon will be your best resource for this question. I would rceommend while the scar is red, especially at the beach, that a strong 50+ SPF sunscreen is used. Hope that's helpful.
