I was told to clean the hole area every three days with hibiclens and cover it up. Does this sound like to all I need ? I have a friend who got a tt and her ps had ehh clean the area everyday with neosoorin and alcohol so I'm confused

The drain site will heal by itself and generally only takes a few days to close.  Surgeons vary in their recommendations of care for the sites.  Continue to follow the advice of your plastic surgeon as he/she is most familiar with your surgery and how you've been progressing through recovery.

Thank you for your question. Congratulations on your TT. Drain site heals by itself. Just clean at the time of shower and apply neosporin or bacitracin ointment twice a day. Please follow instructions from your PS.

Make sure that you review all information with your physician.  We generally don't recommend hibiclens for open wounds.  I have provided a link for your review.  Hibiclens is a topical solution.  That being said, these drain sites close very quickly.  I have not seen major problems with them after the drain is removed, provided that a seroma does not develop.

I instruct my patients to just keep the drain hole covered with dry sterile dressings and tell them that they can shower after there has been no drainage from the hole for 24 hours. Both alcohol and Hibiclens soap are injurious to human tissue other than intact skin. Therefore, I think it is a bad idea to apply either alcohol or Hibiclens to the drain  hole before it is completely sealed and not draining.
