I would recommend discussing this with your plastic surgeon. I would want to know what exactly is in the "detox" tea and would want to make sure that there is not something in there that would interfere with wound healing or cause bleeding.Hope that helps.
Hello,Thank you for your question. There are some medications, supplements and herbal ingredients which can affect how you bleed. I advise my patients to avoid certain products pre and post op for that reason. I recommend that you contact your surgeon and provide the list of ingredients so that they can advise you and ensure your safety. All the best
Hello, Nutrition after surgery is very important to heal properly so be sure to discuss the details of the detox with your surgeon so he/she can guide you.All the best in your recovery!Dr. BlaggAustin, TX
Hello,There is no benefit to drinking something that claims it can 'detox' your body. You have a liver and kidneys to do that, and any product that claims such effects are merely spouting misinformation. Best of luck!
Dear yeyaluv, every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
You must ask the PS who performed your TT and BBL surgeries. Many of these teas contain ingredients about which little is known. It is much safer to not use them this early in recovery.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
You need to find out exactly what is (or may be) in that "detox" tea and then discuss it with your surgeon to determine if you can consume it. Related to this questions, it is also important that you follow the instructions given to you by your surgeon in order to heal as quickly as possible while also minimizing the risks for problems.Steven Turkeltaub, MD
You need to check with your surgeon as certain herbals may cause blood-thinning/bleeding/bruising issues. Your surgeon's office likely provided you with written recommendations and instructions regarding which ingredients/medications to avoid during your perioperative healing process.
Thank you for your question. Be sure to read and re-read your surgeon's pre and post-operative instructions as mana (myself included) advise patients to avoid herbal teas and supplements as well as weight loss supplements as these often contain ingredients which hinder the healing process. The best 'detox' immediately after surgery is to drink at least 1 gallon of water per day. The water helps flush the medications used during surgery out of your body. If you are drinking detox teas and supplements to help with bloating please know that abdominal swelling is to be expected after a tummy tuck, and will subside as you heal. Post-operative lymphatic drainage massage will help aid in the elimination of retained fluids that can be expected after surgery. Lastly, adhering to a healthy diet consisting primarily of fresh fruit and vegetables is the best detox. Best of luck to you!
I would suggest that you discuss this with your plastic surgeon and follow all of her or his pre and post-operative instructions. The plastic surgeon should becertified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery that you trust and are comfortable with.Robert Singer, MD FACS La Jolla, California
