Will internal scar tissue caused by endometriosis be visible if Liposuction is done?

Question

I have a small amount of stubborn fat on my abdomen I would like to remove via liposuction. My concern is that my endometriosis will effect my results in the form of increased rippling or lumps from internal scar tissue. I am also prone to the endo belly bloat and worry that will effect my results as well if it occurs during the healing period. Does anyone have experience with treating endometriosis patients with stomach Lipo? Does it make it a more risky procedure aesthetically? Thanks!

Endometriosis is a condition that affects the intra-abdominal organs and not the subcutaneous fat which lies under the skin. This type of fat is the type of fat that the surgeon removes during a liposuction procedure. For this reason, treating the patient with endometriosis with Liposuction does not cause any excess risks compared to patients who do not have Endometriosis.

Liposuction will have no affect on your endometriosis since the fat removed is above your abdominal muscles, not internal. It will also have no affect on bloating, unless it is from taking narcotics.

No not at all! The scarring caused by endometriosis is deeper than the muscle. Liposuction never goes below that muscle and is only in the external fat. Endometriosis or its scarring will never play into your appearance. Best of luck! Dr. Boschert

Endometriosis typically forms in pelvic structures typically allowed side of the uterus and sometimes on the small intestines.

It is usually limited deep in the pelvis and is always intra-abdominal.

It should not have any impact on the shape of your torso and will not affect Liposuction in anyway.

Hi and welcome to our forum!Endometriosis involves the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. It may involve the internal pelvic organs. It rarely extends beyond the pelvic region.Liposuction involves the removal of fat located between the skin and musculature. There is no entry into the abdominal cavity and therefore no exposure to endometrial cells. "Scar endometriosis" is a phenomenon where the abdominal cavity is surgically entered during c-section or hysterectomy and endometrial cells are inadvertantly seeded into the skin incision.The procedure will not improve your bloating situation. You should speak with your gynecologist or primary care physician regarding this issue.Visit a board certified plastic surgeon for evaluation, examination, and discussion.Best wishes...

Your endometriosis will have no effect on the results of your liposuction and your liposuction will not affect your endometriosis.  Make sure that you see someone who is an expert in liposuction and has been doing it for quite some time.  Unfortunately, a huge number of people that are doing liposuction have limited training and many are not even surgeons.
