Can wigs be worn after a FUE/FUT hair transplant?

Question

Because it is difficult for women to style hair after a hair transplant, and weaves may not be an option, is it safe for women to wear wigs 1-3 months hair transplant post op? Of course this is with the understanding that a non abrasive protective covering (i.e. satin bonnet, silk scarf) will be worn under the wig, serving as a protective barrier between the wig and natural hair.

It certainly would be acceptable to wear a wig after FUE/FUT hair transplant. However, you should not wear one until the grafts are "stable" which is typically 10-14 days. Certainly you should discuss this with your doctor as you should follow his or her recommendations for the best result.

FUE requires a shave so most women elect to have FUT strip surgery since you don't have to shave and scarring will never be seen.  If for some reason a woman choose to have FUE surgery, then you can ask your doctor about wearing a wig or a scarf.FUE does not mean you will get better results.  It is just a harvesting method.

You can absolutely wear a wig after FUE/FUT after maybe just 10 days.  The donor site is generally healed by 3 days and the grafted hair can tolerate trauma but 10-14 days.  Wigs are an excellent way to camoflage the procedure while everything is growing.  Good luck!

Yes.  This is done often.  As long as your wig is not rubbing against the recipient graft site,  you should be ok.

This works after a month or so but be sure that (1) there is no rubbing and (2) the wig is very clean and does not contain bacteria that could cause an infection in the recipient area. Your salon can clean it for you.

Many women resume wearing wigs after a hair transplant until they have enough growth to feel comfortable leaving their head uncovered. The timing will vary from surgeon to surgeon, so it is important to discuss this in advance with the doctor who will be performing your transplant.
