I'm not sure which lines are troubling you. If they are the small wrinkles that surround the lips and are often called “smoker's lines,” then Juvederm Volbella – a very thin hyaluronic-acid based filler – would probably be the best choice. If you are talking about the nasolabial folds, then a thicker dermal filler such as Restylane, Juvederm or Belotero would work quite nicely to even out the furrows. Botox is used to relax dynamic muscles, such as those that create crow's feet and the “11s” between the eyes. Consulting with a board-certified dermatologist will allow him or her to evaluate your wrinkles and make recommendations to rejuvenate your face with Botox and/or dermal fillers.
I recommend visiting a reputable physician for consult. Amount of filler (Juvederm or Restylane), not Botox, depends on the area of injection, your individual appearance at presentation, and your desired aesthetic. Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Hello, Thank you for your question. Botox will not help with the lines around the mouth. It can stop some of the movement, but you will need a filler like Juvederm or Restylane to fill in the lines around the mouth. However it is imperative that you consult with a local physician to make sure that you address all of your concerns. Good luck!
Dermal fillers such as the new Vollure are better choices for lines in the cheeks. Botox in that area would alter your facial expressions and probably not correct the problem.
Thank you for your question Weraw47. Botoxis a purified protein used to address wrinkles associated with facialexpression. It is important to communicate effectively so that everyone is on the same page. The term "smile lines" is ambiguous because it can either refer to the nasolabial folds or the crow's feet. These wrinkles are both seen when one smiles. The nasolabial folds are wrinkles that go from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. These are treated with fillers such as Voluma and Vollure, which restore lost volume. The amount required varies from person to person. For my patients I usually recommend starting with two syringes and going from there. The crow's feet are the lines seen around the eyes when one smiles. These are caused by contraction of the muscle that goes around the eyes. Crow's feet are treated by relaxing this muscle with Botox. The pivotal studies demonstrated that when 24 units of Botox are used in this area (12 units per side) peak effects are seen at 2 weeks and most people enjoy their results for 3-4 months.
