I have been noticing since the past 8 year that my mouth area seems to protrude. It also seems that and I'm only 23! I have been a regular moderate exerciser for the past 10 years, eat healthy, take care of my skin and my appearance. I don't know why all of a sudden my face has changed and I look so masculine face. What do you think is happening and what would you recommended to fix the problem in terms of fillers or other cosmetic procedures?

Answer: Protruding mouth There are number of issues which need to be examined in your case. Number one, are your teeth in good alignment? Number two, your chin appears to be rather small and lacking projection with respect to the rest of your face. Number three, your cheeks appear to be rather flat and require more fullness thereby making your mouth not as protruding in appearance. I would go to a plastic surgeon like myself for an evaluation and treatment which sometimes can be provided on the spot. Good luck from New York City

Answer: Facial disproportionality Hi and welcome to our forum! There are many causes of disproportionality. Before considering a surgical approach, I would recommend an endocrinology evaluation to determine if these "masculine" characteristics may have a hormonal cause which may respond to medical therapy. 2 dimensional photographs may not portray the entire picture, but as you note, your chin appears recessive. This could be misleading. There are imaging techniques (cephalometric studies) to determine if the chin is recessive or if the upper jaw is protrusive. This will allow proportions to be accurately determined. If your dental occlusion is normal, a recessive chin can be corrected with an implant. If abnormal, your lower jaw can be advanced. A protrusive upper jaw requires an recessive procedure. Seek a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. Best wishes...
