How soon can I have lipo after umbilical hernia repair? (Photo)

This is a little bit of a nuanced situation but its important. I always like if possible for the patient to have it repaired first. I typically refer them to a general surgeon if I am performing the liposuction but if I am doing a tummy tuck I will likely just fix it myself. I usually like it fixed before because of safety also if you bring everything down around the belly button it makes the hernia look worse!

I recommend following up with your surgeon about their recommended timeline. I recommend waiting at least 6 months. For best results with liposuction, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction, which can be performed at the same time as a tummy tuck, if you're a candidate. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermiRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will give you the most toned result. Liposuction should not be performed in the presence of a hernia due to the risk of inadvertent damage to bowel or intraperitoneal viscera. These should be repaired prior to surgery. Liposuction should be delayed at least six months to allow for adequate healing of the repair prior to re-operation. Some surgeons will require general surgical clearance as well.As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

I would recommend the hernia be repaired before any liposuction if it is  a problem or symptomatic. I would recommend at least 3 months waiting to do another surgery and preferably 6 months is liposuction is near the incisions for the repair.

Although it is hard to give you an accurate advice without a proper in person consultation, I would recommend a full Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty mixed with Liposuction, the hernia can be fixed with the repaired of the abdominal muscles in the Tummy Tuck, also if you want we can take advantage of your own fat and injected it into your butt area.
