Yes, facelifts can last 10 - 15 years. A facelifts corrects the laxity of the fat pads and their supporting structures underneath the skin, by resuspending / repositioning them to a more youthful location. The duration of a facelift depends mostly on the facelift technique and rate of aging after the facelift. A simple skin lift will not last very long and will often create issues. A good SMAS lift can last closer the 10 year mark, sometimes longer, and the deep plane is typically considered to have the best longevity. If the technique is poor, tissues may be suspended under tension, and so drop down sooner than expected. However, if the technique is good, we will have successfully reset their position, and the patient will look younger with the tissues holding nicely by natural healing forces.Unfortunately, time will continue to tick, and a facelift does not prevent aging. With a good facelift the tissues will continue to drop at the same rate as they would without a facelift, so 10 years after a facelift, you will look 10 years older than you did right after that facelift. Bone and fat volume loss contribute greatly to this aging process as well, as they lead to "deflation" and loss of facial fullness / support. Skin changes with loss of collagen and elastin will also continue to occur. These all depend on many factors like diet, skin care, sun/smoking, genetics, etc ...So to sum it up, yes facelifts can last that long if done well, but the aging process will continue. However, with a good facelift, in 10 years you will still look better than you would if you did not have one. I hope that makes sense. I personally prefer the deep plane approach as I feel I can get more natural results with better longevity. Good luck!
