Liposuction/BBL and Irregular Hearbeat

No matter what operation you are considering, getting medical clearance from your cardiologist will be the first thing to do. The good news is that many irregular heart rhythms can safely be managed with when all parties involved communicate well and have a plan. An option is to do the operation under local anesthesia. I have done many body contouring procedures with patients who are awake with the addition of an anesthesiologist in the room. That way, you have a physician who is dedicated to monitoring your heart situation continuously but you are not asleep or under general anesthesia or even IV sedation. Check with your plastic surgeon if he or she offers this option.

If you have had the appropriate workup by a cardiologist and have been cleared, surgery can be undertaken.

Do not get worked up. You are not going to become a cardiologist overnight. What you need to remember that your cardiologist will determine whether you are cleared for surgery, not you and not even your surgeon. You are going to trust your cardiologist as he/she is the most knowledgable regarding this matter.
