Hi there and thank you for your question. The illicit free silicone biopolymer injections are a non-FDA regulated and non-FDA approved injectable material, so unlike hyaluronic facial filler injections (like Restylane or Juvederm) there are no real studies on the lifetime of the product once injected into the body. As a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, I have specialized in silicone biopolymer removal surgery since my residency training in the Bronx, and have consulted with patients who were injected well over 30 years ago who still have a significant amount of product present from the time of their original injections. Silicone buttock injections can be removed but I warn you that it is impossible for any surgeon to remove 100% of the injected material. This is because the injected product is not encased in a shell (like an implant) which allows the material to travel and move throughout the soft tissues in the area/region that it was originally injected to. As part of my pre-operative workup for my silicone removal patients, I require MRI imaging to identify the extent of silicone/biopolymer material present and the infiltration of this material throughout the soft tissues in the areas of concern. I have seen this material migrate throughout the subcutaneous tissue and muscle layers of the buttocks and travel to areas outside of those originally 'treated' or injected. To answer your question, I am not sure if there are surgeons in Texas who perform silicone removal surgery and if there are not any, why that is. What I can tell you is that there are only a handful of qualified, board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons in the country who specialize and routinely perform these removal surgeries - me being one of them. I would strongly recommend scheduling a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who specializes in these procedures and who performs these cases regularly. Many surgeons offer in person and virtual consultations also! I hope that this helps and I wish you all of the best. Dr. Nik
Silicone in the buttocks and soft tissue can cause inflammatory reactions. Our office specializes in the management of Karamanoukian Grade I-IV reaction in the soft tissue using minimally-invasive means. The first step is to identify the grade of soft tissue reaction and determine whether the tissue can withstand surgery. Best, Dr. KaramanoukianRealself100 Surgeon
Thank you for the question regarding hydrogel buttock injections. No one really knows how long the hydrogel can last. However, I worry more about the scar tissue reaction to the hydrogel. Naturally, your body forms scar tissue to foreign substances. The hydrogel can be hyper-reactive and cause excess scar tissue formation. The scar tissue can lead to localized severe pain, radiation of pain into your legs, and chronic skin redness. The scar tissue around the hydrogel can turn into a granuloma. A granuloma can then become cancerous. In most cases, the hydrogel and surrounding scar tissue can be removed. Please seek an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in hydrogel silicone removal from the buttocks.
Hi Faithful,I'm sorry to hear everything you've been through. I have seen many cases in my practice similar to yours. If you were consulting with me, I'd start with ordering an MRI to determine the nature of any remaining product. You could benefit from another open removal and reconstruction. I...
