Does a rushed consultation with a busy surgeon result in a rushed surgery?

I visited with a surgeon who rushed the visit, which I paid $100.00 for! He's very good and experienced, but if he's so busy, how likely is it that he's gonna rush my surgery as he did with the consultation? It was for a body lift and aug (using my own tissue and fat to push the fat down in the buttocks with the blood vessels attached; not BBL).

Thank you for your question.  There are a lot of issues that should be broached during a consultation for the procedures you listed.  If you did not get your questions answered to your satisfaction consider asking for a second consultation as you still have concerns.  If this is a problem, then you can pursue another consultation.

Thank you for your question regarding whether a rushed consultation with a busy surgeon results in a rushed surgery. The answer is not necessarily. Experienced plastic surgeons are busy. They are in high demand. Just because you have a rushed consultation does not mean you're surgery will be rushed. I would examine your plastic surgeon results online and closely examine their number of before and after pictures. I would also carefully examine their results. If they do not have a significant number of pictures, more than fifty, I will consult with another plastic surgeon. An experienced plastic surgeon should be able to spend as much time as you want to answer all your questions. In addition, they should have ancillary staff to answer all your questions during your consultation, mainly because you paid one hundred dollars. Not necessarily is the short answer. However, it is essential that you feel comfortable with your surgeon and that adequate time is spent to educate you on the pros and cons of surgery, options, risks and anticipated benefits. All of your questions should be answered in details. If you still want to use this surgeon, I would let him/her know of your concerns, that you felt rushed and wanted a second consult gratis. A rushed consultation is not a good indicator of the quality of care that you will receive after surgery.  The fact that it bothers you already is significant.  You need to find someone who is willing to take the time to explain the operations to you.  This will reflect on the time and care they spend in the operating room as well as after surgery.  The operation you are describing is a novel procedure that is performed by surgeons that specialize in post massive weight loss patients.  Even having a consultation with a surgeon that does not perform this autologous hip flap is a waste of your time.  I personally do not perform this hip flap, but is very easy to find out on this forum which surgeons specialize in massive weight loss patients and auto augmentation of the buttocks.

Body contouring after weight loss requires a lot of skill, and double the amount of involvement after surgery compared to most other plastic surgeries.  I would be concerned if your surgeon does not seem to be able to build enough time into explaining and discussing the with you one these more involved procedures.

It is very important that you feel comfortable with your surgeon. If you felt rushed, you may find that all your postoperative care is also going to feel very rushed, even if the surgery turns out to be fine. More concerning is how you might feel if something doesn't go as expected, and how adequately he or she will address your concerns.  I would definitely consider consulting with another board-certified plastic surgeon if your overall impression was that you were rushed.

You are talking about some very sophisticated surgery. If the surgeon isn't courteous enough to spend the time to thoroughly answer your questions and make you feel comfortable, I would definitely move on. You have already seen what the rest of your care will be like.

Thank you for your question.Sorry you felt rushed, you should call the surgeons coordinator again and tell tell her how you felt. I'm sure she will schedule another time with him for no charge and I'm positive he'll spent all the time you need.Everybody can have a bad day and there may be another reason why there was a rush (perhaps an emergency?) give him another chance and you may still become best pals.

Hello and thank you for your question. It could well if the surgeon is extremely busy but most likely not. Having said that you need to feel very comfortable with your surgeon.  I charge $50 for a consultation and none for out of town patients.  80% of my patients are post massive weight loss.  I spend as much time with my patients as needed and whether they have paid for the initial consultation or not encourage them to follow up with myself at no charge as these surgeries are complex and most patients will have multiple further questions to ask.Peter Fisher M.D.
