I have discoloration on my abdomen and back after lipo. I'm a month post op. Will it go away?

Got lipo done on my abdomen and back. Discoloration looks horrible Will it go away and why did it happen because I see a lot of Women who didn't have this problem right after surgery so it's kind of hard to Believe it will go away

Conventional liposuction should not create discoloration of the skin. With the adjunctive use of a laser or ultrasound the skin is thermally treated which can result in hyperpigmentation. This may take a long time to totally resolve.

please post photos, if this is pigmentation then it will resolve but may take 3-6 months or more.  If it is blood vessels issues -- erythema ab-liposuction -- this will not resolve without laser treatments and RF devices.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Most liposuction patients have some element of bruising afterward that resolves with time.  I would give it more time and discuss in detail with your plastic surgeon.  Good luck.

Bruising after liposuction is common and can vary from patient to patient. If it has already been a month, the discoloration is from staining caused by the bruising. Certain lasers can be used to help with removal of the pigment. Before you do this should talk to your plastic surgeon first to make sure he or she is ok with that option. Also, applying hydroquinone to the area may help. Again talk to you plastic surgeon first before trying any of these options. Best of Luck.regards,Dr. Ravi Somayazula

Not all patients post op is the same, in some cases patients could present discoloration after a liposuction, which is normal during the recovery process, al though I recommend you discuss this with your board certified plastic surgeon so he/she could give you the right answer.
