Can you get an encapsulated seroma from liposuction? I had surgery about 5 months ago.

I did not know I had a seroma and now its kind of a bulge. Its soft hard but you can still feel the fluid within the bulge like the bulge is really just fluid. My doctor wants to drain the fluid via Interventional Radiology. He said this will help flatten the area but it will still be hard I guess from scar tissue. My question is can I develop an encapsulated seroma from lipo? Most of the pictures ive seen of pseudobursa are usually from tummy tucks.

Hello and thank you for your question. It is possible to develop seromas from liposuction. This occurs because there is an area of empty space and then the body naturally produces fluid that can fill the space up and it doesn't get absorbed. This can occur for many reasons like, for example, doing too much activity after surgery, not wearing compression etc... An encapsulated seroma is usually due to a seroma being present for a long period of time. If an encapsulated seroma is present then usually the first step is to try a slerosing agent.
