Are there any contraindications of using Sculptra for the face on patients with Ehlers-Danlos?

Hypermobile type. Mild to moderate skin involvement, skin is stretchy and somewhat doughy. My backup choice of filler outs voluma, but I like the longevity and more natural approach of sculptra. Thanks

I would recommend discussing it with your doctor. In the right hands, well-placed Sculptra will give you great results. Keep in mind, it takes 3-6 months to see results with Sculptra. Sculptra is a great product for improving facial volume and collagen building, but for best results, I recommend using it in a combination depending on desired results. I combine Sculptra with other fillers, lasers, toxins and skin care to give immediate results. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

so this is a tricky question. As you know your condition has a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations. Some peoples skin is only lightly affected where as some people have profoundly lax skin. Sculptra  works by creating increased collagen deposition. As you know, Ehlers danlos is a weak collagen related condition. I very much doubt there is any evidence or subjective work done to study effects of sculptra in Ehlers danlos patients. Certainly I think you will struggle to find any surgeon has any personal experience. As I say, this is a very difficult question. The collagen you produce may be weak and the skin supporting the extra volume will probably be weak giving an unpredictable result. My commonsense advice would be to avoid sculptra. If your face requires more volume, then there is absolutely nothing that would give you a better result than using your own fat. Fat grafting provides beautiful, natural and permanent results in the hands of an outstanding plastic surgeon.
