Is it common to be more swollen the 2nd round of liposuction?

Secondary liposuctions often have increase swelling, hardness and tenderness compared to first time treatments.   Since the tissues are increasingly fibrotic, it can take longer for swelling to subside.   Every patient is different, but sometimes this can last for several weeks or longer.   For secondary liposuctions, lymphatic massage performed weekly can help to subside the swelling more quickly in most cases.  Drink lots of water and follow your post-op protocol. It is too soon to tell what your final results will be. You have swelling, which can last 3-6 months after your procedure. I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Diana. I appreciate your concern, however it is still early in your postoperative journey and you are most certainly still quite swollen. It can take as long as 4 to 6 months for all swelling to subside, so try to stay patient and follow up with your plastic surgeon. Good luck.

Dear diana08,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a liposuction surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues are still swollen. I address this on an as needed basis and take into consideration patient discomfort, the extent of swelling and weight gain status. If there is considerable discomfort, massage may not be tolerated. If there is a great deal of swelling, compression should be addressed in addition to the need for massage. If there is a considerable amount of weight gain, a small amount of a water pill can be helpful also.

Yes, it is normal to be have more swelling the second round of liposuction, due to the tissues being fibrotic.
I suggest my patients to try the lymphatic massages, in most cases, one or two days after surgery and to use a full body compression garment, 24/7 for the first 3 months, and after that, for 12 hours a day for 3 more months, to get the best results.
If you have any concerns, please follow up close with your plastic surgeon.
