Bruising on lips after Juvederm Ultra Plus? (Photo)

Question

I just had 1 syringe of Juvederm Ultra Plus injected 3 days ago. I have a lump on the left upper lip in the pictures & possibly bruising? I'd like to know if it appears to be bruising & if the lump/bruising will go away. It is only a tad tender at this time.

Thank you for your question and for sharing your photos.   Swelling and bruising are normal after filler injections.  Please keep in mind that it will take 2 weeks to allow post procedural swelling and bruising to resolve and to see your final result.  Icing is beneficial for up to 24 hours after the procedure.  Arnica ( Arnika Forte is absolutely Great) is also helpful for minimizing normal post procedure swelling and bruising if you start taking it 2-3 days before the injection and continue for 3 days after the procedure alone with pineapple juice.  Avoidance of aspirins, fish oils and NSAIDS for 3-5 days prior to a planned injection will also minimize your bruising risk.  Hope this helps and best wishes!

Certainly you can expect some swelling three days after Juvederm injection to the lips.  Although I don't see any bruising in your photos, this can also occur and usually resolves in 7-10 days.  Mild lumpiness can also be common and can be gently massaged in order to soften them.  You should always follow up with your injector if you have any concerns at all.

Hi Alexia. Bruising and lumpiness is common after dermal filler injections. Both of these will go away with time. To reduce bruising and swelling we use a gentle technique for the injection with icing in between injections. This really helps.Look at my video link to find out about other ways to reduce swelling and bruising. Always follow up with your injector at 2 weeks and discuss your concerns. The bruise will go away sooner, but if the lump is not gone by 2 to 3 weeks, then a little hyaluronidase may be required. It looks like you have some bruising and swelling, which will last 1-2 weeks after lip injections. If you're unhappy with final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Best, Dr. Emer

Thanks for your question and the photos – we do see swelling in the area but little bruising.  All of this is normal following lip injections and will subside within 2 weeks of your injections – you can use ice for now and if things are not settled or you are not happy at two weeks, one can have hyaluronidase injected to dissolve the filler.  Best of luck.

Thank you for your question. It is not uncommon to experience swelling and bruising after filler injections, however this should resolve in the next 2 weeks. I always advise my patients to ice the treated area to help resolve swelling. You can also gently massage the swollen area to help smooth it out. Please consult your injector if this persists after two weeks. All the best!

Hello Alexia,lynn,The very mild bruise you have on day 3 after lip filler injection is very common.  This is the same area where you feel the lump, which is likely just the bruise.  It can take two weeks for the swelling to go down, especially with an entire syringe of Juvederm Ultra Plus injected.  If after two weeks you still have contour irregularities then you can consider having a hyaluronidase injection to remove the filler.I hope this helps and good luck.

I don't see much bruising at this time. I do see the swelling in the middle portion of the upper lip. This should subside but if it doesn't, I would discuss with your physician for correction.
