Can you get a breast augmentation and cholecystectomy at the same time?

This is a strange surgical combination but for a variety of reasons including problematic recovery and risk of bacteremia, I would suggest doing the breast augmentation separately.

Thank you for your questions. I would not recommend combining these two procedures for several reasons. First, your cholecystectomy will be done at the hospital and combining procedures will increased your risk of infection or other complications, especially can increase the risk of contamination and infection of the implants. Second, you will have much higher cost doing a cosmetic procedure at the hospital vs. doing it at a surgery center at a different time. I don't think you will find a plastic surgeon who would be willing to do your augmentation at the same time with gall bladder surgery for those reasons. Recovery from both is fairly quick, thus I would recommend spacing them apart at least 3 month.

Not the greatest idea...if by chance there is a complication or infection with your gall bladder surgery, your implants will be at risk for infection.  I would recommend doing them separately and a few months apart.In good health,Ellen Mahony, MD

Dear marie1011,I don't think that you will be able to do it at the same time. You will need a plastic surgeon to perform breast augmentation and general or abdominal surgeon in order to get a cholecystectomy. If you are having problems with your gallbladder, then you should consider cholecystectomy first and later BA. I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. I do not think it would be a good idea to combine a cholecystectomy with a breast augmentation. From the recovery standpoint it is not that big of a deal but there is a risk of bacteria in the bloodstream which can influence the outcome of your breast augmentation. No,  best to take care of the medically necessary (cholecystectomy)  procedure first (if it is found to be indicated). Then once you have fully recovered proceed with the breast augmentation procedure. Best wishes.

There may be bacteria in your inflammed GB and this can increase the risks of infection in placing a prosthetic breast implant. This would be a disaster. Also, the costs will be much higher in the hospital for the breast surgery. Be wary of any surgeon willing to do this combo.
