hello puffersteam17 If you have had suction of the knees, thigh, or abdomen, the doctor will have put on a compression garment at the end of the surgery. The extra pressure this garment provides helps reduce swelling and discomfort. You should not remove this garment at all until the second or third day after surgery. After that, feel free to remove the garment temporarily for laundering. We want you to have circumferential pressure for 4-6 weeks, but you may switch to an exercise garment (Lycra or Spandex) whenever it feels comfortable to slip it on or off, as you will have to do so in order to go to the bathroom. #arms #post-op
Hi! I would check with your surgeon regarding your soreness. Most patients at 6 weeks are not painfully sore. In regards to compression it never hurts to wear it, even if it's athletic compression. Honestly, call your surgeon and discuss your concerns. Best of luck to you!
Garments are intended to control swelling after liposuction. Usually, the greater the amount of fat removed, the longer a garment should be worn. Swelling is not always painful. Pain requires an examination to determine the best course of management and it will subside over time.
Hi Puffersteam17,I would suggest you follow up with your surgeon who performed the surgery. Every surgeon will have different requirements as far as how long you need to wear your compression garment. In our office, we have patients wear a garment for a total of two weeks. It is concerning and uncommon to still be very sore at six weeks post op.
Pain and/or swelling can be variable and may last 3-6 months after your procedure. If necessary, pain can be treated with anti-inflammatory medications and neurontin. If it persists, I recommend following up with your Doctor.I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease any swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer
Hi There, I give different recommendations for each patient based on their skin type and quality. 6-8 weeks is usually sufficient but I find patients tend to enjoy the added compression but do not like the added bulk from the garments. After the phase I garment I often recommend swapping out into some spanx for another 4-6 weeks to help contour and provide some added compression. Every surgeon is slightly different in their approach to garments, I would follow up with your surgeon and his recommendations. The soreness will go away over time and not uncommon esp if a larger volume was removed. Stretching with warm compresses can help.
Each surgeon has his or her own preferences when it comes to how long compression garments should be worn after Smartlipo™ or any other type of liposuction. Wearing compression garments can encourage swelling to go down more quickly and help you feel more comfortable. However, if you feel less comfortable from the compression, your surgeon may have another suggestion that could help. Best of luck.
Thank you for your question. We typically recommend wearing compression garments after laser-assisted liposuction 24-7 for the first 6 weeks, then either at night or during the day for the next 8 weeks. Typically, Smart Lipo patients are mostly comfortable and back to normal activities after 7-14 days. If you develop any other signs or symptoms of infection, such as redness, increased swelling, fevers or chills, I would contact your surgeon.
Hello,It is the best to ask your physician and I would recommend you having a follow up visit. It is quite concerning to have so much discomfort 6 weeks post smart lipo. There are possibilities and it would be the best to have you evaluated by your physician.Hope the BestRay Bayati MDElite Medical AestheticsSacramento area, California
That is a question you should ask the surgeon who performed the liposuction. All doctors have their own postoperative care they want you to follow in order to achieve optimal results. With that said, I typically ask my patients to wear their garments for 2 weeks and then stop. Some doctors don't put their patients in any garment following surgery. Best to follow up with your surgeon. Good luck!
