What type of liposuction should I get to address ankles, calfs and knee reduction? (photos)

Question

I have had cankles my entire life. I’m 28 and have had underlying health issues ruled out. My calves and ankles will swell as the day goes on, I do wear compression socks to relief the discomfort. I want to perminint solution. What are my options for surgery and what time of lipo would be best. What would be most flattering on my body. I’m 5’2 124lbs my legs are too big for my frame. Prefer local anestesia only

With the issues that you are describing, you may have underlying venous insufficiency contributing to your lower leg swelling. This should be evaluated by a vascular surgeon prior to pursuing any lower extremity contouring. If and when you decide to pursue this, I would recommend seeing a board certified plastic surgeon as these procedures can be very tricky, leaving you with permanent swelling and contour irregularities in lieu of the fix to the problem that you were seeking.

Liposuction should work well to remove excess fat around your knees. However, it will not reduce or remove excess swelling in your legs and ankles, and you may find many surgeons will refuse to do liposuction in that area because of your swelling. Keep wearing your compression socks.

The type of liposuction is not important but who does the procedure is.

Lower extremity Liposuction is a more challenging procedure than other body areas. This is especially true for calves and ankles.

For this area expect swelling and recovery time to be three times worse than typical Liposuction in other areas.

The swelling can persist for many months.

Most plastic surgeons don’t have much experience with calf and ankle Liposuction and simply delivering consistent high-quality Liposuction results is more difficult than most people believe so for this area it is especially important to find someone truly talented and experienced.

Thank you so much for your question. Ankles are a very difficult 3 dimensional liposuction challenge with the bone tendons and nerves and vessel's. I have been doing ankles for over 30 years and if it is fat that is your problem, you are an excellent candidate for micro Lipo suction surgery. We would use very small cannulas with multiple directions without extra heat like visor or laser and it will require attention to compression for 3 months after. We will be preforming this procedure under awake anesthesia.
