Hello! I'm 5'4" 185 lbs. I saw a cosmetic surgeon and they offered liposuction for $10,000, to be done at an outpatient surgery center. I would be intubated and the procedure would take approximately 3 hours. This is for their lipo 360 procedure. My question is, is that normal, to spend that much? I have friends who have had tummy tucks for around $4,500, so I wondered why this procedure is more expensive.
Answer: Liposuction Prices vary a lot. It depends on how many areas will be suctioned. But go ahead and price shop. You can i or tibsbly get a good job done for less.

Answer: Prices First, liposuction is charged by the number of areas treated and sometimes additional is charged depending upon how much overweight you are. If you have several areas treated, then the costs and time needed goes up. The surgery center charges by time and the amount of equipment needed. Second, there are additional fees for the operating room and the anesthesia and labs. The fee of $4500 for a tummy tuck probably does not include the surgical facility fee or anesthesia, and may have been a special price for a short amount of time.

Answer: Cosmetic surgeon and price for Liposuction First and foremost I would recommend that you make sure that your providers credentials include board certification by the American Board of plastic surgery. No other credentials are sufficient. $10,000 all inclusive four full abdomen liposuction would be on the lower end in our community. I don’t know any plastic surgeon who charges less than $7000 for a tummy tuck and that does not include anesthesia and operating room. Prices vary substantially based on geographic location and it’s a free market so providers can charge what they want in customers or patients are free to have the procedures or not. Regardless of price what is more important is understanding if you’re a good candidate for the procedure and proper vetting of the provider. Cost is certainly no guarantee of quality results but the most talented plastic surgeons are unlikely to seriously discount their prices. Liposuction results vary immensely and the number of people being permanently disfigured from this operation because of incompetence is not insignificant. I recommend all patients have multiple in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons to help find the most talented and experienced provider in their community. Look for providers who have impressive collections of before and after pictures with a minimum of 50 quality before and after pictures of abdominal liposuction results. In reality a highly experienced provider should have hundreds to possibly thousands of before and after pictures for this procedure and anatomic location. I also recommend patients read all reviews on all the major physician review websites and choose providers who have the least number of justified negative reviews. In the end don’t look for bargains when it comes to parachutes or cosmetic surgery. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
