I was wondering what would be the best procedure to correct my weak chin and jawline. I do have an overbite which is being treated with braces but I doubt my chin will see much change once that process is completed. I am fairly healthy but it just seems like there's either loose skin or stubborn fat right under my chin and jaw area.

Answer: Question about procedure for weak chin/jawline The photographs demonstrate a recessive mandible and fat deposits in your neck, located both above and below your platysma muscle in the neck. Consider placement of a chin implant to augment your chin forward, and a neck lift procedure, which can accomplish removal of the fat deposits above and below the muscle, in addition to a platysma plasty to significantly improve your jawline.

Answer: Living with a small mandible Aesthetics of the lower 1/3 of the face and neck are primarily determined by and structure of the Mandible. When the mandible lacks sufficient, patient typically experience a lack, jawline definition, a double chin and premature jowls. this also creates an overbite, occlusion and profile pictures the upper lip will have more forward projection than the lower lip. This skeletal relationship between the Mandible and Maxilla causes the , platysma muscle to drape the neck in the more oblique fashion. Individuals who have a small mandible and also lack projection of the chin can benefit from chin augmentation. Chin augmentation can be done with a sliding genioplasty, implant augmentation, or with the use of fillers. For individuals who have a substantial layer of subcutaneous fat Liposuction an be helpful. There are also suture suspension procedures that can help give better definition to the neck. Different plastic surgeons will have a different opinion, training, and experience about how this is been treated. Mandibular advancement is also possible, but is a fairly intense procedure that some individuals may be apprehensive to undergo. Oral surgeons contribute significantly for this type of work and may approach the problem from a more skeletal perspective, than plastic surgeons, who often are more soft tissue oriented. Consider having in person consultations with both oral surgeons and plastic surgeons in your community. Best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
