Sliding genioplasty before jaw surgery?

Question

Im getting double jaw surgery bit have to wear braces for 18 months.Since i have t9 wear braces for so long I would like to get an advancement sliding genioplasty (along with buccal fat removal and chin lipo) as I am very self concious about my weak recesssed chin and chubby face,butt is it a bad idea to get a sliding genioplasty before my djs?

In my professional opinion, you should not have your sliding genioplasty before your DJ S.  It will skew your orthodontic analysis and facial analysis for your DJS.  Additionally, the prior surgery would create scar tissue from that surgery that may hamper your DJS

In most cases, I would not recommend performing a sliding genioplasty if I was planning to move the lower jaw forward at a later date with a sagittal osteotomy. Do you really want to go through 18 months of braces? If you can eat a normal diet and your teeth are straight (not a lot of crowding) then you might want to consider just a cosmetic correction with a sliding genioplasty. Many patients are told by their orthodontists that they need braces and corrective jaw surgery for an overbite or underbite but they just want to look better. Sometimes it comes down to function and aesthetics.
