Are Daxxify injections painful? Do I have the option to numb treatment areas?

I am hoping to have Daxxify done soon and I am wondering if this type of injectable is painful. I have a low pain tolerance and would also like to know if numbing cream is an option?

Hi there, thank you for your question. Most neuromodulators are injected using very small needles, often via insulin syringes. Most patients find it very tolerable, only feeling a slight pinch/quick stinging sensation and then a little heaviness from where the solution was injected and don’t require topical anesthetic. But you can absolutely request it from your practitioner if you’re feeling anxious about it.Just a little warning, the peptide used in Daxxify that increases its longevity is known to have a little more bite to it than other neuromodulators. So you may want to try another neuromodulator first, like Botox/Xeomin/Jeuveau/Dysport. However, there is a way that Daxxify can be reconstituted with a small amount of sodium bicarbonate solution to help alleviate that discomfort. I would recommend that you consult with an experienced injector and be sure to ask what advanced pain control methods they can offer. Best of luck!

Daxxify injections will feel similar to Botox or other neuromodulator injections.  I've included a video on some techniques we use in our office to help those that have anxiety or a low pain tolerance for injections.

Hello! The injections for Daxxify shouldn't be much different than those for other neurotoxins. It does depend somewhat on your injector's technique, but for the most part I would expect the injections to be very similar to those of other neurotoxin brands (very small needles, similar injection patterns, etc. ). You certainly can request to have numbing cream applied beforehand, but if you do, I would recommend letting your injectionist know beforehand and plan to arrive 15-30min ahead of your scheduled appointment to have the medication applied and then wait for it to take effect.
