Dear GreyshadowThank you for your question. I personally use compression stocking before surgery until at least one week post op. This help the blood flow and prevents thrombosis. Best wishes. 

Many surgeons recommend compression stockings during and after surgery. You should ask your surgeon what they recommend for how long to wear them. It is also very important to be getting in and out of bed and walking periodically after surgery as this also helps to prevent DVT.
