Day 9 after neck lift, swelling still not going down, is this normal? (Photo)

It is usually expected that patient would be ready for public presentation (work) 2 weeks after face and neck lift. However, when fat grafts are used period of swelling is prolonged for additional 1-2 weeks. These are issues that surgeon should discuss with patient before procedure although individual reaction to trauma of surgery may be very different. It doesn't seem to be a big issue telling your coworkers and friends about your cosmetic surgery these days; it is very common and socially well accepted practice. Good luck.

Hello and thank you for your question. I am sorry to hear of your concerns about swelling. Swelling after a neck lift that includes a fat transfer can take up to three weeks to subside and sometimes longer depending on the individual. Persistent swelling is common with fat transfer procedures and is not indicative of a problem with your surgery. The swelling should reduce with time. Meanwhile, avoid sodium and carbohydrates, be patient and, if your concerns persist, schedule a follow-up visit with the board certified facial plastic surgeon who performed your surgery. Yes it is not uncommon to be swollen 9 days post op. In addition, the fat grafting is certainly contributing to your swelling in the face. The swelling could take several weeks to resolve but the first 2 to 3 weeks are when significant amounts of swelling decrease. The best thing to do is eat a healthy diet and avoid sodium and carbohydrates. Hang in there, it will improve. Be sure to stay in touch with your surgeon.
