I am schedule to do an autologous buttock augmentation with fat grafting, lipo 360 and a brachioplasty. I am very concerned about the autologous augmentation. What are the side effects and is it a procedure that will cause more back pain than I am already having. I have herniated disc and sciatica that can get very painful at times. My doctor recommend this procedure which he thinks will be better than doing a straight bbl.

Answer: Medical terminology It’s generally better and certainly more accurate if we all used correct medical terminology and cut back a bit in using abbreviations. A BBL stands for Brazilian butt lift. The procedure is liposuction done anywhere on the body but most commonly on the torso with grafting of the fat in the buttocks and hip area. that sounds like exactly what you’re having with the exception of the brachioplasty. So far I don’t see anything different in what you describe then a BBL. Delivering consistent quality liposuction and fat grafting results is more difficult than most people believe. The learning curve for this procedure is long and steep. To maximize quality results and minimize the chance of having undesirable irreparable bad outcomes patients need to find the most experienced and talented provider in their community. Do that by having multiple in person consultations. During each consultation ask each provider to show their entire collection of before and after pictures for the procedures you’re interested in. In your case it sounds like what you’re having is a BBL and brachioplasty. Seeing a handful of selected representative images which in reality are probably the best results of that providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average or typical results look like. Patients should ask the provider to show exceptional results, average results and less than results and talk about the difference in outcomes. You should ask the provider to show as many before and after pictures as possible of patients who have similar body characteristics to your own. An experienced provider should have no difficulty showing you 50 or more sets of before and after pictures. Highly experienced surgeons will have hundreds or possibly thousands of BBL before and after pictures. Plastic surgeons also very substantially and their personal philosophy on how the procedure should be performed. The BBL procedure has a vast array of different outcomes based on who does the procedure. We’re looking at before and after pictures always confirm that after pictures are taken at least three months from the date of surgery. Early post operative fat transfer pictures can look very impressive but do not at all represent final results. Finally, I recommend reading all the reviews and various physician review websites avoiding providers for any significant number of justified negative reviews. The absence of justified negative reviews is more important and more telling than having an abundance of positive reviews. Most people do not have long-term pain after this procedure and liposuction and fat transfer should not affect spinal cord pathology. That said some people may experience differences in these conditions after the procedure. Typically these procedures are not related to worsening or improving back pain. The total List of complications and risks with this procedure it’s pretty extensive and is best explained by your surgeon. In my opinion the most common complication is being disfigured by being in the hands of a surgeon who lacks skill and experience. If your surgeon is not answered all your questions then I suggest making another appointment before your procedure. If you’ve not had multiple appointments for comparison then I suggest doing that before committing to having this procedure. Liposuction and fat transfer are permanent procedures that are more or less irreversible. Choosing the most talented and experienced provider is by far the most important variable.
