Tummy tuck with lipo of inner thighs, done through tummy tuck incision. Will recovery be easier or harder using this method?

Is getting a tummy tuck with liposuction of inner thighs safe to do together. Is the recovery easier or harder if done through the tummy tuck incision? Will these two procedures done together increase risk of blood clots or fat clots?

In my experience,
adding inner thigh liposuction to a tummy tuck procedure does not increase the
overall recovery period.  That being
said, I would think that it would be difficult to adequately perform inner
thigh liposuction via the abdominoplasty incision alone.  I would typically make an incision within the
pubic area that will ultimately heal beautifully.  It is always important to be conscious of the
risk of blood clots.  This is a complication
that your surgeon should be cognizant of.

Hi and thanks for your inquiry. It is common to do combined procedures so there would be no problem with TT and lipo of thighs done together as well. Recovery is practically the same because the difference is a 0.5cm incision in each side that is not going to be there but the rest is not changing. Best wishes.Dr. Milla

It will make no difference to your recovery whether the lipo is done through the TT incision or elsewhere.  The incisions are small and not the source of discomfort.  The longer a procedure the greater the risk for blood clots which is why I start all my patients on blood thinners the day after surgery.  I have not had any problems with post-op bleeding and it does decrease the risk of blood clots.  So does drinking plenty of fluids and walking a little bit very soon after surgery (the same day or even in recovery). Fat emboli are extremely rare and I have never seen one in 25 years of practice.
