About 1.5 years ago I had a positive ANA.I repeated the test two weeks ago and the ANA is still positive.I am pending a rheumatology consult but aside from some low back pain I'm asymptomatic. Any PS on real self have any input on performing BA in a patient with a possible autoimmune disorder? I've read some debatable stuff on autoimmune type reactions AFTER BA but none on patients with known disease undergoing BA. Of particular concern is would this increase my risk of capsular contracture?

Answer: #capsularcontracture #autoimmune disease #breastimplants #breastaugmentation I would not have any concerns putting in gel breast implants with rheumatoid arthritis or any collagen vascular disease as long as we are coordinating with your rheumatologist and they are aware of your surgery. You would need to discontinue any steroids and immunosuppressants. I have done augmentation surgery on similar patients- we just need to coordinate with your rheumatologistI am not aware of any prospective study that links an increased risk for capsular contracture in patients with collagen vascular disease.

Answer: Positive ANA 1:160 considering breast augmentation I recommend that you first discuss your interest in placing breast implants with your rheumatologist and then once cleared find a plastic surgeon in whom you have confidence. You will need to be free of any immunosuppressants or steroids prior to and for a period of 3 to 4 weeks after your procedure. Good luck and best wishes.
