I used Hydroquinone for 8 weeks on my face and noticed it made my melasma patches darker when I stopped using it and was exposed to UV light - even with a 22% zinc oxide on daily. I have now stopped using Hydroquinone and am looking at other alternatives such as kojic acid and or alpha-arbutin. Are these products toxic long term? Do they affect skin sensitivity to the sun long term i.e. make the melasma patches darker when exposed to UV light and or if I stop using it? Thanks, Mary

Thank you for your question. If you are starting to feel more symptoms with your birth mark, I would recommend visiting with a specialist, namely a dermatologist. They would be able to make sure there is nothing to be concerned about and diagnose the type of birth mark you have.
This is absolutely normal and will fade in time. I usually perform a series of Pulse Dye Laser or V Beam treatments one week after sutures are out. 3-4 sessions of laser will markedly fade the redness, and improve the scar as well. All the bestDr Davin LimLaser DermatologistBrisbane, Australia
The pulse dye laser or V Beam can be successful in over 90% of cases. You will require between 4-8 treatments. Birthmarks on the face do better than those on the limbs. Red birthmarks such as PWS are easier to treat than brown ones. All the bestDr Davin LimLaser DermatologistBrisbane,...
