Dear Sir or Madame, my question: I have a LINX magnetic implant for reflux management. Can i still have Vaser liposuction treatments in the areas chin / belly? Best wishes, Johnny
Answer: LINX Magnetic Implant and VASER Liposuction Thank you for your question regarding having a LINX magnetic implant and if you can still have VASER Liposuction. Yes, you can have VASER liposuction even if you have a LINX magnetic implant for reflux. The VASER liposuction machine works with ultrasonic frequency. It does not work with magnets. Therefore, you are good to go. There are no magnets involved with VASER liposuction. I hope this helps to answer your question about whether you can have VASER liposuction even with a LINX magnetic implant. Good luck. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Reflux magnet I’m not an expert on G.I. issues and I’m not familiar with this magnet but it doesn’t sound like it should have any impact on getting Liposuction as long as you are a good candidate and find a sufficiently talented provider. in the end each individual plastic surgeon will make the decision whether it’s appropriate or not to do surgery based on your candidacy and medical history. Delivering consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people believe and this includes plastic surgeons typically think they are better at this procedure than they actually are. The fact that plastic surgeons do liposuction often in conjunction with other procedures on a regular basis does not mean that they’ve mastered body contouring with this treatment. Delivering consistent quality results is far more difficult than people think and takes years of experience including doing thousands of cases with a commitment to improving and mastering the procedure. Liposuction results are permanent and more or less irreversible and can leave people disfigured if not done correctly. being board-certified with an overall good reputation is insufficient to confirm the provider has mastered this procedure. In my opinion the type of Liposuction or the name of the device is not particularly important in comparison to choosing the right provider. If you select providers based only on those who have a certain piece of equipment then you could potentially be eliminating the most talented provider because they use a different brand of equipment. To find the best provider for your procedure I suggest scheduling multiple in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons in your community who seem to do a lot of Liposuction based on having lots of before and after pictures on their website or plenty of reviews particularly mentioning Liposuction. Personally I recommend patients avoid virtual consultations whatever possible. During in person consultation ask each provider to show their entire collection of before and after pictures for the areas you’re interested in. Being shown a handful of preselected pictures which most likely represent the best results of the providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like in the hands of each provider. Patients should serve as an advocate for themselves and properly vet providers by asking each provider to open up their portfolio and show their entire collection a before and after pictures or at least as many as they are comfortable doing. You may want to ask providers to show as many pictures as possible of people with similar body characteristics to your own. Likewise you may also want to ask providers to show examples of excellent outcomes, average outcomes and less than outcomes. An experienced surgeon should have no difficulty showing you at least 50 sets of before and after pictures. Highly experienced surgeons will have hundreds or even thousands of before and after pictures for common procedures like abdominal liposuction. Finally I recommend reading all reviews on various physician review websites avoiding providers for any significant number of justified negative reviews. The absence of justified negative reviews is more important and more telling than having an abundance of positive reviews. When looking at before and after pictures look carefully at all areas treated to make sure there are no skin contour irregularities anywhere and the results look consistently good. you may want to ask the surgeon to point out areas that were treated and areas that were not treated and look carefully at transition zones between treated and on treated areas. Continue having consultations until you feel you found an appropriately talented and experienced provider. You can also talk about your medical history during the consultation. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
