Thanks for your question, Mrsbuckie,As the other answers here address, you can over-expand the tissue expander but there may not be good reason to do so. As the expanders are filled, the shape and size change fairly dramatically, even if the external shape seems to change slowly. Once an implant is filled near its capacity, the implant does not expand as fully (the surface area does not change as quickly), and instead it becomes more round, hard, and often uncomfortable. Since the tissues aren't being expanded as effectively, and most gel implants are not available above this point, it's rare that I would need to continue to expand. Also remember the old adage, bigger implants=bigger problems (stretched tissues, sagging, rippling, etc). Hope this helps! Best regards,--Erik Hoy, M.D.
