Certain medium to deep chemical peels can be effective for deep vertical lines. I would only go to a board-certified dermatologist who personally performs her/his own peels, is experienced in performing these peels and does quite a bit of them, to avoid serious side effects. Otherwise, one can consider laser resurfacing with a fractionated CO2.
Chemical peels can help fine lines and wrinkles, but deeper lines may need something more aggressive, such as fillers. A photo would help.
Deep chemical peels with TCA may improve the deep wrinkles around the mouth. I would suggest having these done after skin prepping and an indepth consultation. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian
Unless you are doing a very strong TCA or phenol peel, the best alternative for you is co2 laser resurfacing with or without fillers. I suggest seeing a well trained dermatologist for this, someone with a lot of experience in lasers and peels. Best, Dr. Emer.
Phenol 89% or Baker Gordon Phenol are the agents of choice for this provided you have the right complexion. These agents also damage melanin in the skin and can make the peeled skin hypopigmented. By careful patient selection, these agents are best for fairly lightly complexed individuals. A personal consultation is needed to assess this for you.
Without photos it would be difficult to assess your situation. In general, if you have the correct skin type and situation, a deep (phenol-croton oil peel) can improve and even remove deep perioral wrinkles. You really need to be evaluated by an expert in deep peeling. This procedure is highly dependent on the skill, and experience of the doctor. (Not everyone does Deep Peels). Chemical peels can be effective treatments for fine lines and surface wrinkles. However, deeper wrinkles may require an alternative treatment such as a laser resurfacing treatment or an injectable filler.
Chemical peels are great for improving fine lines or wrinkles. Deeper lines usually require something more along the lines of filler especially around the mouth in what's called the nasolabial folds/smiles line area. There are different strengths/types of chemical peels some of the more invasive ones can improve deeper lines. From my experience I've found the filler Juvederm works best to smooth and fill out those types of deep lines around the mouth.
