Had 2 consultations and my surgeon told me on Friday that he has to lower my breast fold and I was wondering why when I have seen lots of woman with little breast tissue between the nipple and crease on here and they didn't have to have this done??also was wondering if there is a way around this? Thanks in advance for your answers
Answer: Is it common to have to lower the breast fold/crease? Since every patient is different, the operative procedure should be individualized. While it is rarely necessary to lower the fold, that procedure may produce a better cosmetic result in the patient who really needs it.Keep in mind that following the advice from a surgeon on this or any other website who proposes to tell you exactly what to do without examining you, physically feeling the tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical history, and discussing the pros and cons of each operative procedure would not be in your best interest. I would suggest you find a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person.Robert Singer, MD FACSLa Jolla, California

Answer: Lowering of creases Hello,Thank you for your question. The lowering of a fold, if absolutely necessary, should be done in a very subtle and very careful way. Your quality of skin/tissue and measurements will be key factors, as well as the size/projection of implant you choose. Choosing smaller implant can put less strain on the crease as well as reduce the need for expanding that area. If you aren't confident in your surgical plan, seek another opinion in person. It isn't possible to give you specific advice online. All the best

Answer: Breast fold/crease: Infra mammary fold (IMF): information Dear Ms. Raeann1987,Thank you for your story and questions. Nothing substitutes for a personal evaluation and a face to face discussion of your options.Unfortunately with out photos, measurements and a exam of your tissues I can can only comment based your story, however I hope you find my comments helpful.Lower the breast crease (inframammary fold:IMF) 1)should only be done in rare cases and then with caution.2)can lead to "bottoming out" (implant to lie on chest and automation of the nipple pointing upward3) "double bubble" where the former crease constricts the implant resulting in a bulge above and below the former IMF.Alternatives1)Breast Augmentation using a dual plane placement 2)scoring of the lower pole of the breast tissueI recommend that you schedule several consultative appointments with Plastic Surgeons who are experienced and Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. In addition ideally they are members of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (denoting by membership as having met additional criteria and a focus on Cosmetic Plastic Surgery).I wish you my best and success,R. Answer: Lowering the Crease Hello,Lowering the breast fold is based on your biodimensional measurements, as well as the planned implant size. Without an examination or at least photographs, little can be said about your particular case. I share your concern. Lowering the fold can be unpredictable, and can lead to unanticipated drop out if not done well. Make sure your consults are with surgeons expert in cosmetic breast surgery, ABPS certified, and a ASAPS member.Best of luck!
