I'm 18 years old and due to sun damage a few years ago, I've developed these festoons on the upper edge of my cheek bones. They are really noticeable, is there any way to reduce them?
Answer: Festoons and Malar mounds Dear CloudyGirl,You appear to have a more congenital or genetic form of festoons / malar mounds. They can wax and wane and the best option involves tightening them from the outside to flatten them.I've had good results using lasers to achieve this result. I'll include a web link below. I hope this was helpful.

Answer: Under eye area You will probably benefit most from a combination of treatments. Fillers can be used to disguise the irregularities under the eye. Lasers, chemical peels, and microneedling can improve the quality of skin texture. Be sure to use a broad based sunscreen every day, even if it's cloudy.

Answer: Malar Festoons Thank you for your question. Festoons are very common. They are also challenging to treat. You can hide them with injectable fillers. Many surgeons now utilize an insulated cautery device to shrink the tissue under your skin. This is done with a local anesthetic through a tiny incision.Best wishes.

Answer: Improving Under Eye Festoons -- Fillers (Belotero, Volbella, Restylane Silk), Fraxel, Microneedling/PRP These can be improved with lasers, microneedling/prp, radiofrequency and well-placed fillers. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: These are not necessarily from sun damage. However, while we are on the subject, it is important to protect your skin from sun damage. The use of sun screen when you out and about is very important. The line you have in your cheek is part of the ligament system in the cheek. It is not really a festoon. In 30 years, maybe it will be a festoon. The simplest thing is to use a daily moisturizer. This helps soften the outer layers of the skin and will soften the appearance of your line. The best option for these is very careful and fussy filler in the line. The best product for this is Restylane. Treatment for you should last well over a year. Finding the right injector will make all the difference when you are ready for this service.
