Thank you for your question.Swelling and bruising are common side effects of fillers, especially in the lips. Swelling can last up to two weeks until it subsides. To be sure, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment.I hope this helps.
The fact that you liked your lips at first is encouraging. It suggests that what you're experiencing is swelling at this point. As long as you don't see significant bruising or asymmetry what you're seeing is likely normal. If you have any concerns contact your physician injector. Swelling tends to peak between 1-3 days post injection and then resolves fairly rapidly. I hope this information is helpful for you.Stephen Weber MD, FACSDenver Facial Plastic Surgeon
It is common for patients who are injected with fillers in their lips to have a good degree of swelling for a few days after the procedure. Staying away from blood thinning medications and icing the area will help to decrease the swelling. Sometimes, a steroid pill is necessary to help your body to get rid of the edema around the lips. Be patient. I'm sure that you will love your results very soon.
Stay calm, what you are experiencing is common. There is always swelling right after lip injections and hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm, actually attract water from nearby cells, making them even bigger over the next few days after treatment. It should all settle down within 2 weeks of treatment.
I would recommend that you continue icing and if you are concerned contact your injector. Steroids may also help with the swelling, which is very common after lip injections.
Everything is going to be OK! I routinely tell my lip augmentation patients the following: 1) Trust me you will like how your lips look after 3 days. 2) You WILL HATE THEM for the first 2-3 days as the continue to swell and look too big. This is just the normal process after lip injections. I tell patients they can take motrin and benadryl after the injections. Also, gentle icing on and off every 20 min helps. Also sleep with your head elevated the first night or two. But please- don't worry yourself. It's going to be fine.
Thank you for your question. It is common to have some swelling, bruising and tenderness after lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid fillers which can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. You can help reduce swelling by applying cold compresses to the treated area. As HA fillers are not permanent you can have them dissolved with hyaluronidase if unhappy with the results. If you have any other concerns please follow up with your injector. Best of Luck!
Lip fillers tend to swell the most in my opinion. It is best to follow the instructions of your injector. I often have patients use cold compresses periodically.
I always tell my patients to not love their fillerinjections for 2 weeks. Swelling is very common and sometimes immediate. It canlast 3-7 days and a good idea is to use cold compresses. Cold compresses may beused immediately after treatment to reduce swelling only if needed. This may beapplied for 3 minutes, 3 times per day, for up to 3 days. This is best donewith a bag of peas in a zip lock bag. Only apply light pressure to the area butgentle massage might be necessary if the bump is from the filler materialitself. Get Arnica gel if you can find some and apply a few times a day as wellto help treat any swelling. Avoid any blood thinners. Bruising can also last1-2 weeks. I don't recommend hyaluronidase this early and wait a few weeksuntil the swelling has resolved. If it is persistent or you are worried, set upa follow up appointment with your dermatologist.
Hello jhl,The lips tend to swell the most out of any area in the face. If you liked your results after the injection you will like your final result. Your swelling is likely to increase for the first few days despite any treatment you do. Cold compresses (not ice directly on the skin) can help minimize the swelling but won't prevent all of it. If you are concerned I would certainly recommend you notify your injector for further recommendations. I hope this helps and good luck.
The choice should really be who injects a lot. I find that most plastic surgeons are by definition are surgeons and want to spend their time operating. Dermatologists, who are primarily injecting and doing cosmetic dermatology are injecting all day long. The key is to find someone who is ex...
