My insurance has agreed to cover a panniculectomy since I've had bariatric surgery and lost 100 lbs. My question is, are there cosmetic surgery facilities that accept insurance and can combine the codes? I realize insurance will not cover diastasis rectus and the repair of the umbilicus.

Answer: Can codes be combined Basically things differ among insurance plans quite a lot, however, one thing that is consistent is that they do not cover cosmetic procedures. While a panniculectomy is considered a functional procedure because it removes excess skin below the belly button that is literally in the way and can cause you problems, on the other hand a tummy tuck, wherein the skin above the belly button is pulled down over it and is tightened further, is considered cosmetic. Interestingly we have found that many weight loss patients do not need the diastasis repair and that excellent results can many times ( not always) be obtained by skin resection alone. Now that you have lost the weight if you will continue the fight by getting into the best shape you can it will make your future surgery more successful and lessen the chance you will need diastase repair.
