Kybella second treatment how long will nerve damage last and could it be permanent? (photos)

I had five viles of Kybella injected She did work at that on my jowel area. But I’m experiencing some swelling still but have very little movement in my bottom lip usually when I smile my bottom teeth show and now no matter how hard I try they do not I am also experiencing a hard time pronouncing certain words .

The paralysis should wear off with time as the nerve begins to regain it's function. This should take a few months, but won't be permanent.  you can try RF treatments like venus legacy and exilis ultra with steroids and neurontin to speed up the healing.  LED may also help.  Best, Dr. Emer

The nerve injury is generally temporary.  It is not rare.  It is reported and it is part of the well described risk profile of the treatment.  The most disturbing thing to me as a physician is that after 6 sessions of Kybella, 31% of patients are are disappointed with the treatment.  That is a pretty expensive, painful, inconvenient treatment for such a high risk of see nothing.  In my opinion, neck liposuction, a minimally invasive procedure is much more comfortable, safer, and more effective.  Let you nerve injury fully resolve before considering any more Kybella.  I would consider seeing a cosmetic surgeon independent of the office you get the Kybella for an independent option of your nerve injury and to be certain to properly document what is going on.

This is not typical. I have found marginal mandibular nerve injury to be rare in my clinic as long as standard precautions are followed. When it does occur, it is usually temporary with the nerve taking 4-6 weeks to recover.

this should come back in time. the nerves have not been interrupted physically and over the next few months they should gradually return. You might consider seeing a neurologist and ask whether a nerve stimulator would help
