I received Restylane injections Friday (2 days ago) had some mild swelling and now I feel like my lips look the same as before?

I think you should see your injector and discuss your concerns. My guess is that no enough was injected into the lips. You can try a full syringe or try a different product next time.

Keep in mind, it can take 1-2 weeks for final results with lip fillers. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. Juvederm & Voluma are also good for creating a full lip. Implants or fat are alternatives. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Considering you are likely still swollen, you will probably need more filler to achieve your desired result.  Aside from injection technique or using much less than half a syringe, I don't have a good explanation why things didn't work for you.   You could try a different filler with more structural integrity and hydrophilic properties like Juvederm Ultra. Also, be sure you a seeing a board certified core physician for injections (facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon or dermatologist). Good luck!

Hi,Thank you for your question and sharing your photos. The first question to ask is how much restylane was used? Swelling after lip injections is very common and usually subsides in a few days if there isn't any significant bruising. Looking at your photos, it does look similar apart from the vermillion border, which looks more defined. It's difficult to assess completely with only a 2D frontal view. Occasionally, there are some patients that are fast metabolizers and break down the product quicker but 2 days is unusual. Most likely you need more product. I would encourage you to follow up with your injector to discuss the next step.Hope this helps!

Thank you for your question and for submitting your photos.  While I can't make exact recommendations without assessing you in-person, based on your photos, I think that your results are very subtle.  Do you remember how much Restylane was injected?  Considering the fact that you are still likely experiencing mild swelling, I can't imagine you were injected with more than half a syringe, if even that.  It's likely that you will need additional filler - I would recommend waiting two weeks any remaining swelling to fully subside, and then discussing your concerns with your injector.  You may benefit from a different product, like Juvederm Ultra or Ultra Plus, for more dramatic volume.      

While I see a slight amount of fullness, I do agree that they look nearly the same and at two days post, there is likely residual swelling, thus they will get smaller still. How much product was injected? Based on the results two days post, I would assume not very much - probably 1/2 syringe or less. Another possible contributing factor here is your discussion with your injector prior to the procedure about the kind of results you were looking for? It is possible that they understood that you wanted a very conservative enhancement. I would advise returning to your injector and explaining to them your concern and I am sure they will be happy to add more, if desired.

It does look like you did not get an optimal result. a different filler with more cross-linking could be tried but also be sure you are seeing a board certified dermatologist with lots of experience in fillers

Hello, and thank you for your question.Fillers, particularly Restylane products, can and do, yield outstanding and satisfying results. A lot depends on your injector- their skill, training, experience. in my clinic, we always undertreat rather than overtreat, because you can add more, but taking away is much more complicated. Also, we prefer to help with an enhanced, bur always natural look.Communication between in injector and patients, as always, is a key ingredient in all of this. There needs to be a mutual understanding of what you are looking for, and what your injector feels she can deliver. That's an essential point in my clinic.So, if you trusted your injector with this treatment, then I believe you need to go and speak with them. It's possible that you need more filler, as when the appropriate volume and product is used, along with the skills and experience, there is no reason, I believe, that you should not have a great and satisfying result.I hope this has been helpful.Mark
