I have hydrogel butt shots, now I'm scared! (photo)

Question

I got hydrogel butt shots 5 years ago now I think it's traveling through my body. My butt is discolored, tender and I have stabbing pains from time to time. Could these spots be the gel traveling? Sweet baby Jesus!

Thank you for your question regarding hydrogel injections into your buttock. The skin discoloration is your body trying to eject the hydrogel product. The pain is due to associated scar tissue around the hydrogel as well as hydrogel positioning the surrounding nerves. Also, the hydrogel does travel. I have seen the hydrogel travel from the buttock to the ankle on selected patients. In conclusion, I would suggest you have the hydrogel removed as soon as possible by a qualified plastic surgeon. I'm sorry to hear of your condition. As you may already know, there are no official medical studies on the effects of these silicone injections. However, I treat hundreds of silicone patients every year and what we've seen to be true is that the substance can travel throughout the body. It appears as though you have Karamanoukian Grade III to Grade IV soft tissue reaction which would prompt early intervention to remove as much filler as possible. Continued fibrosis may make it much more difficult in the future. Best, Dr. KaramanoukianLos Angeles
