The FDA states “Do not get injectable silicone or any type of filler material for large-scale body contouring or enhancement.” Also, the FDA has said Injectable silicone is permanent, with side effects that can occur right after the injection and up to years after treatment. Silicone spreads and migrates easily inside the body, which may worsen adverse events and make surgical attempts to remove the silicone oil more difficult or impossible. Silicone, when injected into areas with many blood vessels such as the buttocks, can travel to other parts of the body and block blood vessels in the lungs, heart, or brain. This can result in permanent damage to those tissues and lead to stroke or death.” I specialize in silicone buttock removal and subsequent buttock reconstruction. Answer: Recovery from Silicone Removal Thank you for your question.I am sorry you had to go through that. As you can see, this is why we don't recommend injecting silicone into the buttocks in the first place. It often needs to be removed, and that removal surgery is not an easy one. If you feel up to it, please do what you can to help spread the word that silicone injections into the buttocks, or basically anywhere in the body, is a very bad idea! (There are some instances where a licensed medical provider will inject silicone somewhere, but for the sake of this post, let's just focus on silicone buttock injections and say that it's not a good thing.)Weakness and fluctuations in body temperature are pretty typical after extensive surgery, as are changes in your sleep/wake cycle. I agree with Dr. Gallerani, what you are experiencing is probably your body's normal healing with the surgery, and the effects of anesthesia, and will slowly get better with time (everybody is different). If the symptoms start to worsen, or you develop fevers, you will want to call your doctor and provide updates on your condition. Best of luck!
