Dear Tifftrish, My reflex answer is you should follow the protocol your surgeon has set out for you. I myself cannot think of any reason why you cannot have black tea before surgery. As a matter of fact, anesthesia journals regard black tea and black coffee at “clear liquids” and usually will allow them to be consumed until a few hours before surgery in order to have an empty stomach.
