Will my blood pressure cause my surgery to be cancelled?

I am having liposuction and a fat transfer On January 6th 2017. I went to get my medical clearance and my blood pressure was first 141/100 then the second time it was 131/93. I have never had high blood pressure before. Will I need to reschedule my surgery?

Thank you for sharing your question.  It is always best to have any/all medical conditions medically optimized prior to any aesthetic surgery procedure.  Talk to your doctor about treatment options, as the diagnosis of high blood pressure requires evaluation and readings in different time periods.

It is important to remember that cosmetic surgery such as liposuction is elective (and by definition unnecessary), with that in mind safety is of the utmost importance. Patients should be medically cleared and optimized prior to surgery.In your specific case, a mild elevation in blood pressure can be caused by anxiety (so-called "white coat hypertension"). However, it is important to make sure this is an aberration rather than a sign of poorly controlled pressure.Ultimately, proceeding with surgery will be up to the surgical team (surgeon and anesthesiologist).As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon.

If you do not have any other medical problems, the blood pressure elevations are slight and may not prevent you from having surgery.  This will be left to the discretion of the anesthesiologist and surgeon.
