What Lab Test are required for a BBL procedure? Although it may vary
Answer: Labs for BBL Hi, thank you for sharing your question. I like to obtain a full panel of blood work to evaluate for any abnormalities that may prevent you from obtaining the best results, safely. This includes a CBC, BMP, PT/PTT and EKG.

Answer: PreOp Labs Lab Tests may vary depending on your past medical history. However, commonly required lab tests before a BBL include a Complete Blood Count to assess for possible anemia and platelet function (CBC) and a Pregnancy Test (beta hCG) for females of child bearing age. A pregnancy test (urine hCG) is repeated once again on the morning of the surgery. If you are a good candidate (less than 5L of fat) for a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), the optimal outcomes are achieved with: 1) use of VASER liposuction to harvest the fat, 2) a closed looped system to process the fat, and 3) strategic micro-packet transplant technique. These three processes have demonstrated over 95% fat graft take. This means that your results will be stable as long as you maintain your weight. As an official VASER trainer, I am routinely referred unhappy BBL patients. One of the most common reasons for disgruntled BBL patients is that patients are not able to accurately communicate their desired buttocks goals to their surgeons. A buttocks assessment tool can be an invaluable tool to communicate to your surgeon the exact buttocks size and shape you are desiring. A Skype or FaceTime consultation with a BBL specialist can help you get an accurate recommendation and pricing.

Answer: Lab test before BBL In the United States surgeons have reduced ordering test significantly for young healthy people without underlying medical conditions because it’s been shown to not be necessary. Typical test someone may order would include a CBC which will check to see how much red blood cells or hemoglobin someone has in their blood and how many platelets they have. potentially someone could look into electrolytes and kidney function with a panel 7,9 or 12. Blood clotting disorders can be tested with a PTPTT or INR. Liver function is tested through a panel of liver function tests. An EKG can determine heart rhythm abnormalities and other cardiac pathology. Chest x-ray can screen for tuberculosis and pulmonary disease. It goes on and on but these are the basics. Certain clinics and developing countries seem to still order an array of tests prior to doing elective surgery on young healthy people which is no longer standard of care in the United States. Lastly I do not recommend patients travel long distances for elective surgical procedures. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
