Hello. I am 29 and always in good shape.. I had a bbl and in the area where I had fat injected on my hips now have varicose veins which I never had before. I am 10 months postoperative. What caused this and how can it be treated or will it reside naturally.
Answer: Varicose veins Dear hxcliv, I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what went wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice. Answer: Varicose veins Varicose veins tend to be genetic and are caused by weakness in one way valves inside veins. They can be aggravated by things that increase venous pressure temporarily. In 20 years of doing fat transfer procedures I’ve never seen someone develop varicose veins because of fat transfer. Perhaps you could post before and after pictures so we could see what you’re referring to. Varicose veins are removed by various forms of injections, surgical excision and possibly laser treatments for small spider vein type of varicosities. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD

Answer: Varicose veins Hello and thank you for your question. Varicose veins can be treated with medication or procedures such as sclerotherapy, laser therapy, or vein stripping. Varicose veins can be caused by a sedentary lifestyle, prolonged standing, chronic constipation, genetics, wearing high heels, smoking, birth control pills. In addition, after surgery, the body works hard to heal itself and produce new cells, and can even cause new veins to form-which is probably what is happening to you. You can wait and see if it goes away over some time, but it may need treated since you are already 10 months post-op. Please see a board-certified physician for your consultation. Best of luck to you!
